Question:

“Our first son was an incredible feeder… 15-20 min./side easily. Now #2 seems to be done by 8-10 min./side (pulling off -acting really satisfied). The boys differed in birth weight by nearly 2 lbs… Our 2nd son being the smaller. Is it just because B is that much smaller than the first that he just can’t do 15-20 min/side or should I be “working harder” to get closer to that time frame? Is that enough time at the breast to keep up my supply?”

Answer:

“Regarding feeding time. If B is nursing with intensity then yes, a baby can empty the breast in 8/10 mins. As long as he is sleeping between and you have all the wet diapers he is suppose to give you, and he is pooping, it is all a good sign. Monitor those factors daily.”
